Since the introduction of Ace Race in MCC 7, there have been many mechanics introduced to assist – or hinder – participants during their traversal. Some movement mechanics have been integrated into other parts of the tournament as well.
This page compiles all of the movement mechanics seen in Ace Race.
Aqua Launcher[]

An Aqua Launcher tube in Clouds II
The Aqua Launcher is introduced in MCC 7. It is a large ring inside a body of water. When a player swims through it, they will be boosted forward at a high velocity.
Aqua Launchers are similar to Aqua Rings, but the former boost participants more strongly, are larger, and often placed in a series to cover lengthy but narrow bodies of water.
Launch Pad[]

A Launch Pad featured in Clouds Halloween map
First introduced in Ace Race's debut in MCC 7, the Launch Pad is a block which will launch players to a specific area according to where they aim. A variation with the orange colour, called Mega Launch Pad, works in the same way. However, the players will be launched much farther.
In MCC 18, animated textures were added to the Launch Pads.[1]
Prior to MCC 23, the block used to be call "Jump Pad" before being renamed, in favour of the addition of Jump Pad.
Other Appearances[]
- Big Sales at Build Mart's current map (since MCC 14)
- Main Hub (since MCC 25)
Speed Boost[]

A row of Speed Boost in Turtle Run
Introduced alongside the Launch Pads in MCC 7, the Speed Boost is a block which temporarily increases the player's movement speed when stepped on. After the player leaves the Speed Boost, their movement speed will return to normal in two seconds.
In Pride events since MCC P22, the yellow texture of the block will be recoloured to black, grey, white, and purple, which are the colour palette of the asexual (i.e., ace) flag.
The Speed Boost received animated textures in MCC 23.
Other Appearances[]
- Big Sales at Build Mart's current map (since MCC 14)
- Main Hub (since MCC 25)
- MCC Training Server
Checkpoint[]

A Checkpoint giving players an Elytra in Turtle Run
Introduced as part of the Ace Race's major revamp in MCC 23, the Checkpoint is where the players are given buffs (e.g., Dolphin's Grace) and items (e.g., Trident) or have them taken away. In each map, there are several checkpoints which the participants must pass through. In doing so, their time between each checkpoint will be recorded, and will be notified of the time difference from their second lap onwards.
Available Items and Effects[]
- Trident
- Elytra
- Dolphin's Grace
- Swift Sprint (since MCC TRSD): Increase the player's movement speed, jump height, and step height
Aqua Jet[]

A pair of Aqua Jets in Turtle Run
Introduced as part of the Ace Race's major revamp in MCC 23, the Aqua Jet is a ring which will propel the players swimming in the water in the direction they are facing.
Jump Pad[]

The Jump Pad in the Main Hub
The Jump Pad is a block introduced in MCC 23. When stepped on, players will be given jump boost to jump to a specific higher area. The jump boost launches the player up vertically instead of a projectile trajectory the Launch Pads use.
The appearance is similar to the Launch Pads, but it exhibits a green colour instead.
Other Appearance[]
Moving Wall[]

A Moving Wall in Turtle Run
Introduced in MCC 23, the Moving Wall is a type of special mechanics used in certain maps of Ace Race. As the name suggests, it is a red wall moving back and forth horizontally, serving as an obstacle for the competitors. Each wall has a different moving speed, so competitors must time their movement right to pass without getting stuck.
Slow Fields[]

Patches of Slow Fields in Turtle Run
Slow Fields are blocks used in Ace Race. When stepped on, players will be given slowness, greatly decreasing the player's speed as well as cancelling any speed boosts gained from Speed Boosts.
Fan[]

An array of Fans in Dark Descent
The Fan is a mechanic which was introduced without prior notice in MCC EC. A fan will propel the player in the direction it is facing, indicated by the wind particle effects. This means that fans can be both a convenience or an obstacle in the participant's traversal.
Elytra Ring[]

An Elytra Ring in Python's Palace
Introduced in MCC TRSD, the Elytra Ring is a yellow wind-powered ring. Any gliding player passing through the ring will be boosted forward while maintaining their height.
Obsolete Mechanic[]
Wing Ring[]

A Wing Ring in Clouds
The Wing Ring is introduced in MCC 7. It is a large light blue ring with a pair of wings attched to it. Once a player passes through the ring, the player will be equipped with an Elytra, which deploys instantly without the player's input. The Elytra will be taken away the moment the player lands on something.
It has been unused since the Ace Race revamp in MCC 23, replaced by an Elytra checkpoint.
